Research on indigenous knowledge of geoheritage, contribute to raising public awareness and promoting tourism in some geoparks in Vietnam.

The importance of indigenous knowledge in the study of geoheritage.

In the process of living, the communities have accumulated for themselves and their descendants the knowledge and skills to adapt and live in harmony with the natural environment, collectively known as knowledge or indigenous knowledge. In the form of fairy tales, legends, stories, poetry, folk songs, … community always have unique view, the individual explanation about natural phenomenon which there are geoheritages. These explanations, in many cases, are very close to the scientific nature of natural phenomena, which may be suggestive for scientific research. At the same time, the study of local knowledge helps raise public awareness, increase the attractiveness for visitors, contribute to improve the quality of tourism.

Recognizing the importance of this, the research team of Vietnam Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources led by Mrs. Do Thi Yen Ngoc has researched the project: Research on indigenous knowledge of geoheritage, contribute to raising public awareness and promoting tourism in some geoparks in Vietnam.
